Our vision

We envision a community where everyone is living free from the threat of domestic violence, with access to safe housing, support services, and opportunities for empowerment.

Our mission

Our mission is to provide a safe and supportive environment for women and Children who are in need and are survivors of domestic violence across Canada.

Support and assist women and Children in rebuilding their lives, achieving independence, and regaining their dignity, rights, and happiness.

The Problem

The issue of gender-based violence in Canada, particularly in Ontario, is alarming, with statistics indicating that one in four Canadian women experiences abuse. The prevalence of intimate partner violence (IPV) is significant, with women being disproportionately affected; spousal homicide constitutes 15% of all homicides, and every six days, a woman is murdered by her partner. Children are also deeply impacted, with 80% of IPV incidents occurring in their presence, leading to long-term psychological effects. The need for shelters is critical, especially in the Peel Region, where resources are lacking despite the rising incidents of domestic violence. The Mawa Project aims to establish a shelter in Mississauga, providing emergency housing, counseling, legal advocacy, life skills training, and childcare support to empower survivors and break the cycle of violence. It seeks to create a supportive community network to raise awareness and address the urgent need for safe spaces for women, Youth, and children.
